Dear Families, Friends and Students,
Our Assemblies during the past few weeks have been about celebrating student success at Glen Dhu. Thank you to parents who were able to join us. An outstanding feature of our school culture is the way all students come to school ready to be good learners and kind friends. Congratulations to the many students acknowledged for their kind nature and actions during the past few weeks; you make our school such a special place. Names for the KIND Awards appear later in the newsletter.
This week we acknowledged students from each class for growth in mathematics. Congratulations to students who were nominated for these special end of term awards as they acknowledge the outstanding progress students have made. See names later in this edition.
NAPLAN Results
Initial NAPLAN results were released last week with GDPS students continuing to achieve excellent results. As a school, our results for grade 5 are above Australian norms for all domains, while our grade 3 results show high standards with above Australian norms in both reading and numeracy. Congratulations to all students and to teacher for their hard work to ensure every child achieves their best.
Nurse Tom
This week we said farewell to Nurse Tom as he takes leave from his School Nurse position to take up further study within the health system. This is important for nurses so that they remain current with their knowledge and practice. I’m sure all parents and families will join with us in thanking Tom for his outstanding work in our school community. Our new School Nurse will be announced once processes have been completed. Best wishes to Nurse Tom as he leaves with our very best wishes.
SIP Priorities
Reading and Attendance are identified as key priorities in our School Improvement Plan. We continue to join with other schools to participate in professional learning offered by DECYP with various experts in both areas. Attendance levels are displayed in the entry foyer with a weekly update each Friday. We are also tracking the number of ‘on-time arrivals’ as evidence clearly shows being late means missing essential morning routines and key learning which happens during each morning session. Thank you to parents who ensure their children are at school on time.
Reports and Parent / Teacher Meetings
Progress reports for all children were shared with parents on Friday 20 June with all families invited to talk with their child’s teacher last week. Please contact the teachers if you were unable to attend and would like to arrange another time.
Reports provide information about your child’s progress in key learning areas during the first part of the year. We are hoping you have celebrated the progress they have made and talked about setting some future goals for learning for the remainder of the year.
Playground Development/s
Work will get underway during the holiday break to erect a new boundary fence along the Westbury Road boundary and to install a new playground on the top court. Swings, a sandpit and water play area will be constructed. Another swing set will also be installed in the primary play area. Work is expected to take at least 3-4 weeks so our pedestrian gate from Westbury Road will be blocked for some time. Please look out on Facebook for updates about the nearest gate for entry and exit times.
Turns on the slide are now shared amongst all children with grades 3 – 6 children enjoying the play area at first break and Prep – 2 children playing there at break 2. An official opening for the Swings will be organised once work is complete. Further details will be shared when they are available.
Welcome and Farewells
We welcome Harry G (1/2 D) and Oliver G (Kinder B) and Areesha S (Prep A) and their families to our school community.
Best wishes to all families for a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to seeing students back and ready for learning on Monday 21 July.
Regards

Student Leaders visit Kings Meadows High School
Yesterday SRC members visited Kings Meadows High School to enjoy leadership experiences in a new environment. Some former Glen Dhu Primary School student leaders spent time with the group showing them around and joining with some of the games and activities. Everyone had a wonderful time! Volunteers for Variety Breakfast Club
We are always looking for volunteers for our Variety Breakfast Club every morning from 8:30-9.00 am. If you would like to help just let the school office know. Helpers can volunteer for a day, a week or day a fortnight. We would love to hear from you.
This term, we have conducted a number of school tours for families who live in the Prospect High School catchment area and wish to enrol their child for Year 7 for 2026 at our school.
Because of such high demand, additional tours of our school will be conducted families of prospective Year 7 students in our catchment area and from our feeder primary schools in term 3.
Please click the link below to book your tour.
https://www.trybooking.com/DCUGG
The school tour is a way to learn about every aspect of Prospect High School including our care class system, subject areas and curriculum, and our sport and learning support programs.
Choosing a school community is an important family decision. Make it with confidence by seeing the school in action and hear from our staff and students about what we can offer your family.
Did you know that Glen Dhu Primary School is a Partner School with the Smith Family? This means the Smith Family support us in lots of ways including providing programs for students such as Job Jump and Student2Student Reading.
The Smith Family also support over 50 students from Prep to Grade 6 at Glen Dhu through the Learning for Life program.
To learn more and apply for Learning for Life click the link below or contact Grace Evorall.
We will be communicating with parents via email throughout the year and want to keep our email contact list as accurate as possible. Please notify the office if your email changes, in person by phone: 6344 1349 or email: glen.dhu.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
We are an allergy aware school and need your support as we have a number of students with severe allergies to nuts as well as some other common allergens. Students are asked not to bring any food items that contain nuts or traces of nuts. If you are not sure, please keep this as a home food rather than a school lunch box item. For example, peanut butter, nutella and many muesli bars contain nuts and CANNOT be brought to school! Thank you for your support in helping to keep everyone safe.
No Smoking Allowed on DECYP Sites
No smoking is permitted on school or DECYP property. This includes grounds and carparks. Thank you for setting a healthy example for all students.
Our school uniforms can now be purchased from Midford School Uniforms located at 132 Charles Street Launceston. They also offer online services Midford School Uniforms | School Uniforms Online and School Wear | Midford.
School hats are available at the office for $10.
