Dear Families, Friends and Students,
Thank you to parents and families who were able to join us for P – 2 assembly this week when we presented this year’s KIND Awards. Our students are known for their strong focus on learning and for being kind friends. It was a pleasure to present KIND awards to students identified by teachers and their peers. Names are listed later in this edition. Students from grades 3 – 6 will be recognised in next week’s assembly.
Learning Dispositions
We started our year with a focus on the dispositions for learning that we know help all students to do their very best at school. Explicitly teaching the high expectations for the ways we move around the school, enter and exit classrooms and give full attention to the teacher have been our whole school focus. It was very rewarding to walk around the school last week with statewide literacy leader, Jenny Clements and see every student focused, engaged in learning and giving their best efforts. Jenny sent a message of congratulations saying, “It was really rewarding to be able to see the quality teaching and learning occurring in both UFLI and Word Origins.” Congratulations to students and teachers who are working hard to help every child with their learning and success at school.
Spotted
This week in assembly we gave our first SPOTTED award for the class who have been spotted most often meeting our high expectations for entry and exit routines and for moving around the school in a quiet and calm way during learning times. Congratulations to students in 1-2D. All students and Ms Brown have been presented with a $1 token to spend at our canteen enterprise on Thursday or Friday this week. Look out for next week’s winning class who are doing a great job with meeting our high expectations so that we can all work and learn well together.
Supervision after school
All students have been enjoying their turn to play on the new slide during break times, with primary students having opportunities at break 1 and Prep – grade 2 children playing in the newest area at break 2. We look forward to further opportunities for fun times at school with the completion of the two new swing sets which will be installed soon. Please remember that there are no teachers on duty after school. Children should not be playing on the slide unless they are supervised by a parent. Students waiting for pick-up should be waiting at the front deck for their adult to arrive.
Swings Update
Contractors will begin work during the next holiday break to install two swing sets and a new sandpit and water play area on the top court. A new boundary fence will also be installed. This will involve moving the pedestrian gate from Westbury Road some metres down the hill and away from the steps to the overpass. The playground construction will continue into Term 3. Stay tuned for updates and for the expected finish date when the swings will be open for play.
School Association
The School Association committee met this week to continue their great work to support our school. Their current fundraiser is for Sunrise Bakery, with orders delivered on Friday this week. Further details of their work are included later in this edition.
Respectful Visitor and Volunteer Policy
This is also available from our website.
The policy states that everyone in our school community has a right to feel respected and heard and that violence and abuse is Crossing the Line. This applies to parents, visitors and every member of our school community including staff. Thank you to our many, many parents who are respectful and appreciative of the way teachers work hard to support every child’s learning.
Welcomes
This week we welcome Hux O who joins Prep B.

Grade 1/2C shared a beautiful message in assembly, linking to our Kind awards. They created a poem using AI as a class by taking key points and learning how to input instructions into copilot to generate information, pictures and work samples.
Friendship Garden
In our garden, side by side,
Tiny seeds of joy we hide.
With a giggle and a sunny grin,
That’s how friendship will begin.
We plant kindness, water with care,
Laughter grows just everywhere!
Hugs are flowers, bright and new,
Sprouting love between me and you.
So let’s keep growing, day by day,
In our garden where friends can play!

The LSSSA Cross Country team delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s carnival, securing a well-earned second place overall in a fiercely competitive field. Their success was not only a testament to their athletic ability but also to their unwavering team spirit and sportsmanship.
A special congratulations goes to our Grade 3 boys and girls, who both won their age group divisions, showcasing incredible determination and talent. Their victories were a highlight of the day and set a strong tone for the rest of the team.
From the first race to the final finish line, every runner gave their all—pushing through tough terrain and intense competition.
Highlights of the day included several personal bests, top-10 finishes, and a thrilling final leg that helped clinch the second-place team result.
Congratulations to the LSSSA Cross Country team—you’ve made your school proud!

We are an allergy aware school and need your support as we have a number of students with severe allergies to nuts as well as some other common allergens. Students are asked not to bring any food items that contain nuts or traces of nuts. If you are not sure, please keep this as a home food rather than a school lunch box item. For example, peanut butter, nutella and many muesli bars contain nuts and CANNOT be brought to school! Thank you for your support in helping to keep everyone safe.
Subway Lunches are on Wednesdays.
Lunches can be ordered multiple weeks in advance. Don't forget to update your child's profile to their 2025 class (they are listed as Kinder A etc. rather than their teacher's name this year). Please email contact@subsforyou.com for more information.
Volunteers for Variety Breakfast Club
We are always looking for volunteers for our Variety Breakfast Club every morning from 8:30-9.00 am. If you would like to help just let the school office know. Helpers can volunteer for a day, a week or day a fortnight. We would love to hear from you.
No Smoking Allowed on DECYP Sites
No smoking is permitted on school or DECYP property. This includes grounds and carparks. Thank you for setting a healthy example for all students.
Supporting Your Child's Online Learning at Home
Online learning has become an essential part of education, and families play a crucial role in supporting their child’s digital learning experience. By developing digital skills, creating a safe learning environment, and spending time online together, parents can help their children thrive academically and safely navigate the digital world.
Develop Your Digital Skills
Understanding the technology your child uses can help you guide and support them effectively. Take the time to explore educational platforms, learn about internet safety, and stay updated on the latest digital tools. There are many free online courses and resources available to help parents develop their digital literacy skills.
Creating a Safe and Engaging Online Environment
Ensuring a secure and structured digital space for learning is key. Here are some tips:
- Set up parental controls on devices and applications to filter age-appropriate content.
- Encourage open discussions about online safety, including responsible social media use and recognizing potential online risks.
- Establish screen time guidelines to balance online learning with offline activities.
Opportunities to Play, Explore, and Learn
Children learn best when they have the chance to explore concepts in a fun and interactive way. You can support their learning by:
- Engaging in educational games that reinforce what they learn in school.
- Watching educational videos together to enhance understanding of various subjects.
- Encouraging creativity through digital storytelling, coding activities, and online art projects.
Over the coming weeks there will be further information placed in our school newsletter with tools and tricks to support your child’s online learning at home. More information can be found at: Digital skills for families - Department for Education, Children and Young People
